The weekly round-up<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n October 3<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Premier men<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The premiers played Riccarton in round\u00a0one of the two-day competition at Burwood Park.<\/p>\n Riccarton won the toss and decided to bowl with\u00a0the\u00a0first\u00a0five wickets going to the seamers\u00a0but the last\u00a0five surprisingly going to the spinners.<\/p>\n Hamish Teale (30) and Nick Johnston, this season’s captain (42), were the only\u00a0two batsman to prosper\u00a0in the swinging conditions.<\/p>\n Cole McConchie was the best of the Riccarton bowlers with 4\/17 wrapping up the tail before lunch.<\/p>\n After lunch Riccarton began batting and found the conditions as difficult as Easts struggling to 100\/7 at tea\u00a0with top scorer Liam Bartholomeusz (36) being\u00a0brilliantly\u00a0caught at\u00a0first slip by Tim Johnston.<\/p>\n After tea Riccarton scrapped their way to a\u00a0first innings lead of 15 runs. Not before Nathan McNicol could grab a five wicket\u00a0bag for himself.<\/p>\n At stumps Easts second innings finished at 51\/1 off 17 overs with Leo Carter unbeaten on 41.<\/p>\n Easts lead by 36 runs with nine wickets remaining.<\/p>\n 2A<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n A tough day for the 2A side on Burwood 2\u00a0against Riccarton.<\/p>\n The seconds\u00a0lost the toss\u00a0and were\u00a0put into bat and it\u00a0wasn’t looking too good when we were\u00a0two down after\u00a0three overs.<\/p>\n Dennis\u00a0Bhakta top scored with 23 and\u00a0Hayden Clark finished not out on\u00a014 and were all-out for 61.<\/p>\n Riccarton made 344 all-out with \u00a0Ejaz Khalid taking\u00a03\/58 and Jason Benjamin picking up\u00a03\/81.<\/p>\n Easts were\u00a0all out for 71 with Benjamin\u00a0top-scoring with\u00a030.<\/p>\n 3A<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The East Shirley 3A side (Hooters) played Sumner in the first game of the season at Clare Park.<\/p>\n We won the toss and as rules are rules decided to bat first.<\/p>\n It was tough going on an early season wicket with the ball not coming onto the bat and runs hard to come by.<\/p>\n The team struggled through to 66 at drinks after 20 overs and four wickets down.<\/p>\n Mitch Petheram batted very well for a well compiled 38 and an also useful contribution of 21 from second grade recruit Brad Wright.<\/p>\n We made 152 losing our last wicket in the 40th over and 152 proved to be a very useful score to defend.<\/p>\n Rob Leys bowled well as always and picked up 3\/11 off his 8 overs.<\/p>\n Richard Papps then picked up 3\/3 off five overs and Sumner were dismissed for 52 giving us a win by 100 runs.<\/p>\n Special mention to Phil Roberts who claimed two very good catches in the field.<\/p>\n 3B King’s XI<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The King’s XI have\u00a0had a successful start to the season.<\/p>\n Batting first against Heathcote at Polo\u00a0Grounds they made 178 all out in the 40th<\/sup> over, with new player, Dilpreet Singh scoring 63.<\/p>\n Bowling they restricted Heathcote to\u00a0107 all-out\u00a0in the 26th<\/sup> over with Jodh Singh taking 3\/17.<\/p>\n Presidents Gold<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Presidents Gold\u00a0made the trek across town for the season opener against Hornby at Denton Park.<\/p>\n New captain Craig Gibb won the toss and elected to field first.<\/p>\n Hornby are not one of the stronger sides in the grade, but we were wary after coming unstuck against them in the season opener two years ago.<\/p>\n Opening bowlers Tim Grocott and Marc Wells had a controlled start, restricting Hornby’s openers to\u00a0two runs per over for the first 10.<\/p>\n Grocott\u00a0had a double strike in his\u00a0sixth over to start the rot, eventually ending with 2\/14 from his eight.<\/p>\n Garry Hooper’s spin served to confuse and he was the most successful bowler with 3\/10 from six. \u00a0Howard Morel was also parsimonious with 2\/10 from eight.<\/p>\n
